- I strongly disagree. It has a great deal of utility. It was
- by listening (reading) in on these little language wars that
- I was introduced to Perl in the first place. If I hear (read)
- something that catches my attention, see something that
- looks as though it might be a useful tool for a particular
- problem, or just hear enough testimonials from lovers of
- a particular language, it often inspires me to go check it
- out.
-
- I *love* to hear (read) two people who really know a lot
- about a language, but have different
- opinions, fight it out. The result has been a significant
- expansion in the number of languages I use, rather than
- just using C for everything. (Actually, the truth is,
- it has expanded my repertoire enough that I *never* use
- C for *anything* anymore!)
-
- Keep up the preaching! Those who aren't interested certainly
- have no difficulty skipping over a thread, and those who
- are can learn a lot from "comparative linguistics". ;-)
